I often wonder how Marilyn handled her public perception later on in life. She is so often touted as the “curvy woman who owned her full figure”…essentially the poster child for the average, non-model woman. But, did she really “own” it, like we all like to think she did? Was she truly immune to the viciousness of the media’s love of the skeleton female?
Her depression didn’t cause itself.
I still think she’s iconic for portraying the beauty of the average woman, full figured and lovely. But I don’t think she escaped the slaughter of criticism that plagued women of the time…
I still think she was, to a degree, a victim. And that is just…so very sad….
